The all-foam Zenhaven consists mainly of latex, which is inherently resilient. The Zenhaven is also flippable (the Luxury Plush side feels medium-firm, while the Mild Company side feels a bit firmer), which may show useful if you’re not exactly sure what you prefer or if your needs change with time. This is not a conventionally cushy mattress, but it uses a flexible cushion, excellent edge support, and a subtle springiness. Given its natural durability, the Zenhaven ought to work well for individuals who weigh more than 200 pounds.
For this evaluation, I slept on the Saatva Classic, the Loom & Leaf, and the Zenhaven mattresses for several weeks in my own home. These mattresses were also examined in our group tests performed for Wirecutter’s guides to the best foam mattresses and the finest innerspring bed mattress. As Wirecutter’s senior staff author for sleep, I’ve talked to scores of experts in the mattress market and in products science; checked out lots of bed mattress factories, showrooms, and shops; and pored over the fine print on specifications, service warranties, and return policies. Most recently, supervising editor Courtney Schley assessed the Saatva Latex Hybrid in her house for a number of weeks.

We haven’t yet done a deep dive into the “natural” claims of Saatva or of other “environmentally friendly” brands. We do understand that the business uses thistle pulp or natural wool as a flame retardant (as opposed to chemicals or fiberglass) and only organic cotton (instead of artificial blends) in its covers. As do other online bed mattress business, Saatva promotes such additionals as zoned layers for “optimal spine assistance”; we’re less amazed with those features and more appreciative of Saatva’s responsive customer care and long lasting foams and coils.
