Note: Saatva just recently updated the Zenhaven, altering the type of latex utilized in its foam layers. The Zenhaven now features Dunlop latex, instead of Talalay latex; learn more about the differences listed below. We plan to check the new version quickly and will update this guide with our impressions.
The all-foam Zenhaven consists mostly of latex, which is fundamentally long lasting. The Zenhaven is also flippable (the Luxury Plush side feels medium-firm, while the Gentle Company side feels a bit firmer), which may show practical if you’re unsure what you choose or if your needs change with time. This is not a traditionally soft bed mattress, but it offers a flexible cushion, excellent edge assistance, and a subtle springiness. Provided its natural durability, the Zenhaven needs to work well for people who weigh more than 200 pounds.

As Wirecutter’s senior personnel author for sleep, I have actually spoken with ratings of professionals in the bed mattress industry and in materials science; gone to dozens of bed mattress display rooms, factories, and shops; and read the small print on requirements, service warranties, and return policies. Most recently, supervising editor Courtney Schley assessed the Saatva Latex Hybrid in her home for numerous weeks.

We have not yet done a deep dive into the “natural” claims of Saatva or of other “environmentally friendly” brands. We do understand that the company uses thistle pulp or natural wool as a flame retardant (as opposed to chemicals or fiberglass) and just organic cotton (rather of artificial blends) in its covers. As do other online bed mattress companies, Saatva promotes such bonus as zoned layers for “ideal spinal column support”; we’re less amazed with those features and more appreciative of Saatva’s responsive client service and resilient foams and coils.
