What mattress is better than Saatva?
Founded in 2010, Saatva specializes in direct-to-consumer luxury bed mattress under three brand names: Saatva, Loom & Leaf, and Zenhaven. Pocketed coils give the Saatva Classic a good quantity of bounce near the top, and a plush top adds softness. As with all of the Saatva Business’s bed mattress, the Saatva Classic is delivered by movers, rather than in a box.

Note: Saatva just recently upgraded the Zenhaven, changing the type of latex utilized in its foam layers. The Zenhaven now features Dunlop latex, instead of Talalay latex; find out more about the distinctions below. We plan to evaluate the brand-new version quickly and will update this guide with our impressions.
The Zenhaven is also flippable (the High-end Plush side feels medium-firm, while the Gentle Firm side feels a bit firmer), which may prove useful if you’re not sure what you choose or if your needs change over time. This is not a conventionally soft mattress, however it offers a supple cushion, excellent edge support, and a subtle springiness.
For this evaluation, I slept on the Saatva Classic, the Loom & Leaf, and the Zenhaven mattresses for several weeks in my own home. These mattresses were also examined in our group tests conducted for Wirecutter’s guides to the finest foam mattresses and the finest innerspring bed mattress. As Wirecutter’s senior staff author for sleep, I’ve spoken with ratings of experts in the bed mattress industry and in materials science; checked out dozens of mattress shops, factories, and display rooms; and pored over the small print on specifications, warranties, and return policies. Most recently, monitoring editor Courtney Schley assessed the Saatva Latex Hybrid in her house for several weeks.

We have not yet done a deep dive into the “natural” claims of Saatva or of other “environment-friendly” brands. However we do understand that the business uses thistle pulp or natural wool as a flame retardant (instead of fiberglass or chemicals) and just organic cotton (instead of artificial blends) in its covers. As do other online bed mattress companies, Saatva promotes such extras as zoned layers for “ideal spinal column assistance”; we’re less pleased with those functions and more appreciative of Saatva’s responsive customer service and resilient foams and coils.
