What mattress is better than Saatva?
Founded in 2010, Saatva specializes in direct-to-consumer high-end mattresses under three brand names: Saatva, Loom & Leaf, and Zenhaven. Pocketed coils give the Saatva Classic an excellent amount of bounce near the top, and a luxurious top adds softness. As with all of the Saatva Company’s bed mattress, the Saatva Classic is delivered by movers, rather than in a box.

While all of the Saatva firmness choices have pressure-relieving potential, the quantity of pressure relief that a specific experiences on the mattress will differ based partially on their weight and sleep position. People who weigh under 130 pounds will likely experience the most push relief on the Plush Soft variation of the mattress, while sleepers over 230 pounds will likely get the best balance of contouring and support from the Company version.
Keep in mind: Saatva recently upgraded the Zenhaven, altering the kind of latex used in its foam layers. The Zenhaven now features Dunlop latex, instead of Talalay latex; read more about the differences listed below. We prepare to check the new variation soon and will update this guide with our impressions.
The Zenhaven is also flippable (the High-end Plush side feels medium-firm, while the Mild Firm side feels a bit firmer), which might prove useful if you’re not sure what you prefer or if your requirements alter over time. This is not a conventionally cushy bed mattress, but it uses a flexible cushion, good edge support, and a subtle springiness.
For this evaluation, I slept on the Saatva Classic, the Loom & Leaf, and the Zenhaven mattresses for several weeks in my own home. These mattresses were also assessed in our group tests performed for Wirecutter’s guides to the finest foam bed mattress and the finest innerspring bed mattress. As Wirecutter’s senior staff writer for sleep, I’ve talked to ratings of specialists in the bed mattress industry and in materials science; gone to lots of mattress display rooms, factories, and shops; and read the fine print on specifications, guarantees, and return policies. Most recently, supervising editor Courtney Schley evaluated the Saatva Latex Hybrid in her house for several weeks.

We haven’t yet done a deep dive into the “natural” claims of Saatva or of other “eco-friendly” brand names. We do know that the business uses thistle pulp or organic wool as a flame retardant (as opposed to fiberglass or chemicals) and just natural cotton (instead of artificial blends) in its covers. As do other online bed mattress business, Saatva touts such bonus as zoned layers for “optimal spine assistance”; we’re less impressed with those features and more appreciative of Saatva’s responsive customer support and durable foams and coils.
